THE ENVIRONMENT

siddartha of the sakya clan attained enlightenment after hard 

austerities. the historians differ in their opinion about the 

exact time of his enlightenment . most of them , however ,fix 

it is588 B.C where as he is  statedtobe  born  in633B.              Cbodhisatta                Dr . Ambedkar 

believed that siddhartha was born in 563 B.C it is but left to   

conjecture       how the place had looked around


two tousand and five hundaread year from now, how ht lord would have felt on   arriving here         is a matter of guess . lalitavistara ,the famous buddhist text ,reveals the topography of bodhgaya to some extent. here is a quotable passage from the text-'  after halting at the 


gayasira mount fo his own will, bodhisatta walked up to the 

village of uruvela. here he saw the niranjana river , its crystal 

clear water the sared spots beside it , the brike houses , 

trees    , herbs and roots, and the gazing fields etc, the 

bodhaisatta was thrilled by the sight and     said - friends ! 

indeed , this is a beautiful place ; for me and the respectable 

young companions ,who  wish for release, it is most suitable let us stay here ,"
